Ear Care for Patients with Ear Infections and a Perforated Eardrum

Diagnosis

You have a recurrent ear infection in your left ear, with a small hole (perforation) in your eardrum.

This can cause pain and may make your ear more sensitive to water and bacteria.

Treatment

Use Ciprodex ear drops as prescribed:

Step 1: Apply [insert dosage and frequency]

Step 2: Tilt your head and keep it tilted for a few minutes to let the drops work

Step 3: Do not put anything in your ear (e.g., cotton swabs, fingers)

How to Keep Your Ear Dry

During showering or bathing:

Place cotton ball coated in petroleum jelly in the affected ear

Or use a commercial waterproof earplug.
Avoid swimming or submerging your head in water until your ear has fully healed

When to Seek Help

Call your doctor or return to the clinic if you experience:

- Increased ear pain
- Fluid or pus leaking from the ear
- Fever
- Decreased hearing
- Dizziness or balance issue

Follow-up

If symptoms do not improve within 5–7 days, or if they worsen at any time, please return for reassessment.

If infections become frequent or the eardrum does not heal, we may refer you to an ENT specialist.

Stay dry, follow your treatment plan, and take care of your ear!
